Christ the Redeemer (statue)


It is a striking statue of Jesus Christ made form untraditional materials (reinforced concrete and soapstone) located in Tijuca Forest National Park, in Corcovado, Rio de Janeiro Brazil. Not 100 percent certain, the Catholic people offered the economical help to create the sculpture. The period of the construction was from 1922 to 1931. The total cost of this figure was around US$250,000. On October 12 1931, it was the official inauguration. Without a doubt, Brazilian citizens are a big fan of this statue. Unquestionably on July 7, 2007; it was consider one of the New Seven Wonders of the World.
There were a lot of artists who worked on the figurative statue. Equally important, the sculpture needed from their entire job. The engineering, Heitor da Silva Costa was the designer; next to him the sculptor Paul Landowski did one of his all-time favorites sculptures. Additionally, the face of the Christ was created by the Romanian sculptor Gheorghe Leonida; but, indisputable, in the restorations of 1990, 2003 and 2010 the statue needed for all the hand who worked on its always admired work.
Irrefutable, until 2010 when the Christ the King statue on Poland was finished, the Christ of Rio de Janeiro was considered the largest Christ statue of the world whit 30 meters tall not including the 8 meters of the pedestal and it weighs 635 tones. In addition, the 28 meters open arms means peace and the 8 pedestal meters symbolize the world.
